No D.C. Beverage Tax

ATTENTION WASHINGTON D.C. CITIZENS:

Did you know that the D.C. City Council is proposing a new beverage tax? That’s right, on top of the bag tax, sales tax, gas tax and even a phone tax, some City Council Members want us to pay more for sodas, teas, juice drinks and sports drinks.

D.C. Council Member Mary Cheh (D-Ward 3) has proposed a 1-cent-per-ounce tax on beverages – that’s $1.44 more per 12 pack and $0.68 more per 2-liter! The new tax will drive up grocery prices in our neighborhood stores and corner markets. It could also impact the fountain drinks at our local restaurants!
